IPP is metabolized by the liver, where it is conjugated with glucuronic acid. This metabolism occurs through two pathways: direct glucuronidation and a beta-oxidation pathway that generates phenolic metabolites. These metabolites are excreted in urine as glucuronide conjugates or free phenols.
