Diprenorphine binds competitively to the κ-opioid receptor, acting as a competitive inhibitor of morphine and other opiates. In addition, it can be used as a substrate for P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which is an important transporter for many drugs in the body. Diprenorphine is not clinically relevant as a pain reliever because it does not have any analgesic effects in humans or animals. Diprenorphine is also used as a radiolabeled probe for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies of P-gp activity
