• Beschreibung: 1,5-Dibromopentane is a corrosion inhibitor that has been used in the manufacture of plastics, paints, and coatings. This chemical has been shown to have a positive effect on thermal expansion and viscosity. 1,5-Dibromopentane can be used as a replacement for pentane when the latter is not available or cannot be obtained in sufficient quantities. 1,5-Dibromopentane also inhibits the activity of 5-bromovaleric acid (BVA), which is an intermediate in the production of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). This inhibitor can be directly quaternized with sodium hydroxide to produce a water soluble form. 1,5-Dibromopentane can be synthesized by reacting bromobenzene with sodium hydroxide in the presence of water. The product crystallizes out from solution as white needles that melt at 65 degrees Celsius and boils at 100 degrees Celsius
