Diclofluanide is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It was shown to have significant cytotoxicity in toxicity studies with mice, rats, and rabbits. Diclofluanide has been shown to bind to the terminal residues of DNA and inhibit enzyme activities in bacterial cells. Diclofluanide also has a high resistance to enzymatic degradation and can be used as a fungicide. Diclofluanide is extracted from an acetate extract of the plant's leaves by dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE).
