1,2-Dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DMPE) is a diagnostic reagent that has been shown to be useful for the detection of phospholipid transfer reactions in human serum. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as an antimicrobial agent. DMPE is a chelate ligand that binds metal ions such as copper, zinc, or nickel with high affinity. This binding prevents the metal ion from reacting with other compounds and promotes its dissolution in water. The biological properties of DMPE are not well understood, but it has been shown to have particle and phase transition temperature properties.
