3,4-Dihydro-2(1H)-isoquinolinecarboxamide hemisulfate is a drug that is used to treat autoimmune diseases. It inhibits the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, which converts the amino acid tyrosine into the neurotransmitter dopamine. 3,4-Dihydro-2(1H)-isoquinolinecarboxamide hemisulfate is a potent inhibitor of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and has been shown to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus reverse transcriptase activity. This drug has also been shown to increase glomerular filtration rate and body mass index in rats treated with low doses over an extended period of time. 3,4-Dihydro-2(1H)-isoquinolinecarboxamide hemisulfate is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and interacts with other drugs that are metabolized by these enzymes.
