4,6-Dichloro-5-pyrimidinecarbaldehyde is a synthetic chemical that is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. It is synthesized from chlorine and amines, typically primary amines. The reaction yield of 4,6-Dichloro-5-pyrimidinecarbaldehyde can be increased by adding catalysts such as potassium chloride or sodium amide to the reaction mixture. This compound binds to the protein Jak2 and inhibits its kinase activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. 4,6-Dichloro-5-pyrimidinecarbaldehyde is metabolized by conjugation with glucuronic acid or methylation with S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to form monomethylated derivatives that are excreted via urine or bile.
