This compound has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells and cause apoptosis by interfering with protein synthesis. 3,4-Dihydro-6,7-isoquinolinediol binds to a specific site on the ribosome, which prevents the addition of amino acids to a growing polypeptide chain. This process leads to inhibition of protein synthesis and ultimately cellular death.
