This chemical reacts with calcium to form insoluble calcium 2-(dimethylamino)ethanolate (Ca(DMAE)). This reaction is reversible and the equilibrium can be shifted by changing the pH or adding another reactant such as hydrogen peroxide or hydroxide ions.
