Beschreibung:Diethyl methylphosphonate (DEMP) is a polymer that is used as a film-forming agent. DEMP consists of two subunits, one of which is an organic molecule and the other is a methylphosphonate group. The organic molecule binds to the surface of cells and then reacts with the methylphosphonate group, forming an ester bond. This reaction creates a thin polymer film on the cell surface. Colloidal gold particles can be used to visualize this process by binding to the molecules in DEMP films on cells. In biological samples, DEMP binds to plasma RNA and glycol ethers bind to proteins. These reactions are important for sample preparation before analysis with electron microscopy or mass spectrometry.
