Beschreibung

Peruvoside is a natural product that has been shown to have pharmacological properties. It is a cardiac glycoside and has been shown to have cardioprotective effects. Peruvoside also possesses anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. It is structurally similar to epidermal growth factor (EGF) and binds to the EGF receptor, which may be responsible for its cytotoxicity in prostate cancer cells. Peruvoside has high bioavailability due to its hydroxyl group, which enables it to cross the blood-brain barrier into the brain. The hydroxyl group also allows peruvoside to act as an inhibitor of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which may be responsible for its ability to inhibit multidrug resistance in subcutaneous tumors. In addition, peruvoside can be used as a substrate for P-gp in a model system of isolated heart cells.
