Dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride is a cationic surfactant that is used in many different applications. It has been shown to be effective against lactobacillus acidophilus and human serum, as well as being able to extract analytes from these samples by dispersive solid-phase extraction. The addition of hydrochloric acid to the sample increases the efficiency of the extraction. Dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride also has significant cytotoxicity and antifungal effects. This chemical can be used in coatings and disinfectants, as well as in glycol ethers, antimicrobial agents, and influenza virus prevention.
