The irreversible enzyme inhibition effect is observed in mitochondrial membrane potential at concentrations above 1 mmol/L. The irreversible inhibition effect is due to hydrogen bonding with hydroxyl groups in crystalline cellulose, which leads to decreased production of ATP.
