Beschreibung

Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting their ability to synthesize amino acids. It binds to and inactivates an enzyme involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and other lipids, which are essential for plant growth. Glyphosate has been shown to be synergistic with atrazine, an herbicide that inhibits photosynthesis, allowing for weed control in crops such as corn and sorghum. Glyphosate also inhibits the activity of 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS), an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of shikimic acid into aromatic amino acids. EPSPS is found in plants and some bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This drug may inhibit lipid biosynthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but has no effect on lipid biosynthesis in plants.
