The low efficiency of this compound has been attributed to its low reactivity with potassium t-butoxide. 2,3-Dibromopropionitrile has been shown to cause bladder cancer in rats and reduce cancer cell proliferation. As a result, it may be useful in the treatment of bladder cancer and other cancers. This compound also has fungicidal activity against some fungal diseases.
