Decursinol is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to inhibit signal pathways in human HL-60 cells. Decursinol also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and oxidative injury, which contribute to neuronal death. This drug may be useful for treating diseases characterized by inflammation and oxidative injury such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
Decursinol has been shown to inhibit apoptosis pathways in experimental models, leading to reduced cell death. The concentration-time curve for decursinol in humans indicates that its pharmacokinetics are nonlinear, with high concentrations at low doses and low concentrations at high doses.
