6-((2,4-Dinitrophenyl)amino)hexanoic acid (6-DNP) is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to be an effective model system for studying the structure and function of proteins. 6-DNP has been used in the production of monoclonal antibodies, which are then conjugated with gold nanoparticles or holoenzymes to form immunoaffinity particles. These particles can then be used as models for studying protein folding and antigen binding. 6-DNP has also been shown to produce micelles that are bilayer structures with hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails. This allows them to bind to lipid bilayers and form a layer on the surface of cells, making it possible for other molecules such as radiolabelled drugs to penetrate the cell membrane.
