Dbco-peg4-maleimide is a conjugate of a peptide and a maleimide. The conjugate is used for cancer therapy. It is designed to be taken up by cells that have high levels of the protein CD44, which are involved in tumor growth and metastasis. Dbco-peg4-maleimide can be used as an absorber for light or as a contrast agent for imaging. It has been shown to have anti-angiogenic effects in vivo, which may be due to its ability to inhibit translation of the proteins VEGF and PDGF-BB, which are both potent angiogenic factors. Dbco-peg4-maleimide has been shown to inhibit proliferation of human serum erythrocytes and human fibroblasts in vitro, with its effects being dependent on the concentration of polymer present.
