It can also be prepared by demethylation of methyl benzoate with trifluoroacetic acid and quinones as starting materials. Dimethyl sulfate can also be used to form 4,7-dimethoxy-1-indanone from its corresponding ketones. Lastly, this organic chemical can be synthesized from dimethylsulfate and chloroacetaldehyde ester.
