It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Bacillus subtilis. Disulfoton-sulfone can be metabolized by oxidation or hydrolysis in mammals. The main oxidation product is sulfoxide, which may cause food poisoning. The hydrolysis products are 2-mercaptopropionic acid and 3-mercaptopropionic acid, which have been shown to inhibit the growth of some organisms by inhibiting protein synthesis.END>>
