Dehydroemetine is a chemical compound that is used in the treatment of leukemic mice. It has been shown to have cardiotoxic effects and may cause cardiac arrest in humans. Dehydroemetine inhibits the synthesis of DNA by binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase, which prevents transcription and replication. The drug also has anthelmintic activity against helminths, amoebicidal activity, and genotoxic effects. Dehydroemetine also induces apoptosis through mitochondrial membrane potential disruption and toll-like receptor 4 activation.
