The E/Z mixture has an increased solubility in water and is more stable than cefotaxime. 3-Desacetyl cefotaxime lactone (E/Z mixture) may be used as an antibiotic for urinary tract infections, but it has not been approved for use in humans. This compound is used to coat medical devices such as catheters because of its antibacterial properties.
