• Beschreibung: Deferoxamine mesylate is an iron chelator that is used in the treatment of iron overload and to treat patients with chronic renal failure. Deferoxamine mesylate has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis by inhibiting the basic protein required for this process. It is also known to have a protective effect on myocardial cells, preventing cell death due to lack of oxygen (reactive oxygen species). Deferoxamine mesylate also inhibits neuronal death in a model system.Deferoxamine mesylate binds to DNA and inhibits RNA synthesis, which has led to its use as a fluorescence probe for the detection of DNA binding activity. The drug has also been shown to act as a metal chelate, binding with metals such as iron, copper, and zinc.
