• Beschreibung: Demeton-S-methyl is a chemical pesticide that belongs to the group of organophosphates. It inhibits acetylcholinesterase activity and is used for the control of insects. Demeton-S-methyl is an anticholinesterase agent that binds reversibly to the active site of acetylcholinesterase, inhibiting the enzyme's activity. This inhibition leads to accumulation of acetylcholine in nerve tissue and increased transmission at cholinergic synapses. Demeton-S-methyl has been shown to be acutely toxic in rats, mice, and dogs by inhalation or ingestion. Acute toxicities are more severe with higher dosages as well as with repeated exposures.
