It is hydrophobic and highly soluble in organic solvents like chloroform, ethanol, ether, and benzene. This molecule is kinetically inert and thermodynamically stable. The monomeric form of 1,3-Di-(2-pyrenyl)propane is not sensitive to ionizing radiation. However, in the bilayer form it is highly sensitive to radiation and can lead to the formation of double bonds that can break down into radicals.
