- Quinoline, 3,7-Dichloro-
3,7-Dichloroquinoline is a quinoline derivative that belongs to the class of phenoxymethyl and dialkylamino pyrazinyl herbicides. It inhibits the growth of plants by preventing photosynthesis in green tissue. 3,7-Dichloroquinoline is used as an agricultural herbicide for broadleaf weed control in rice. This active form binds to chlorophyll and blocks electron transfer reactions in photosystem II, leading to inhibition of photosynthesis. The cyano, piperazinyl, nitro, or carboxyl groups are responsible for the herbicidal activity of this compound.
