Beschreibung

5,6-Dinitroindazole is an aromatic, heterocyclic compound with a nitro group at the 5 position. It is found in two tautomeric forms: one with a protonated nitrogen atom at the 5 position and one with a protonated nitrogen atom at the 6 position. The tautomeric form with the protonated nitrogen atom at the 5 position has been reported to be reactive and to have cancer-causing properties in primary culture cells of du145 and HCT116 carcinoma cell lines. This form has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in these cells by interfering with nucleotide binding to ribosomes through its lactam ring system. The tautomeric form with the protonated nitrogen atom at the 6 position does not show these effects.
5,6-Dinitroindazole may also cause cancer by inhibiting tumor suppressor gene p53 activity, which leads to uncontrolled cell growth and division
