3,3'-Dithiobisbenzoic acid is a bifunctional catalyst, which is synthesized by the hydrothermal synthesis of methane and argon. The catalytic activity of 3,3'-dithiobisbenzoic acid is related to its high content of active sites and its low cost. The synthesis process can be divided into three steps: synthesis of the precursor, reaction with water at a high temperature and pressure, and purification. 3,3'-Dithiobisbenzoic acid can be used as an electrocatalyst in the evolution of hydrogen gas from water. In addition, it has been found to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of dithio-bis-carboxylic acids from thiophenes.
