Beschreibung

3,6-Difluoropyrazine-2-carboxamide is a pyrazine derivative that is a new antiviral drug. It has been optimized for hydration and crystallization in order to obtain high yields of the desired product. The synthesis of 3,6-difluoropyrazine-2-carboxamide starts with chlorination of 2-chloroquinoline to give 3,6-difluoroquinoline. Reaction with ammonia gas gives 4-(3,6-difluoro)pyridine. Reaction of this compound with sodium methoxide gives the corresponding carboxylic acid. The final step in the synthesis is condensation of the carboxylic acid with ethyl pyruvate to give 3,6-difluoropyrazine-2-carboxamide.
