• Beschreibung: Direct Red 80 is a dye that is used to detect the presence of collagen in biological samples. Collagen is an important component of connective tissue, which provides strength and elasticity to skin, muscles, ligaments, and bone. Changes in collagen levels are associated with various diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. The dye binds to collagen by means of a covalent bond known as a Schiff base linkage. It has been shown that this molecular structure can be disrupted by dpp-iv inhibitors (e.g., diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid). Direct Red 80 has also been shown to have inhibitory effects on squamous cell carcinoma cells in vitro through its ability to inhibit polymerase chain reaction (PCR) activity. This inhibition may be due to the inhibition of the transcriptional activation of genes involved in cell proliferation and inflammation.
