Duroquinone is a redox potential agent that is used in vitro to study the interactions between hydrogen bonding and inhibitor binding. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of microsomal monooxygenases and cytochrome P450s. Duroquinone also inhibits the activity of NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase, which plays an important role in cellular metabolism. This compound is a model system for understanding plant physiology and transfer reactions in biological systems. Duroquinone is also used as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, atherosclerosis, and diabetes mellitus type II.
