Diethyl isopropylidenemalonate (DEIPA) is a malonic acid derivative that exhibits anti-cancer activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of erythrocytic leukemia cells in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of its anti-cancer activity is not well understood, but it may be due to its ability to bind to DNA and interfere with transcription or by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. DEIPA also possesses an interesting asymmetric synthesis capability that can be used for the preparation of optically active borohydride derivatives.
