Diethyl butylmalonate is a chemical that belongs to the group of polycarboxylic acids. It is used as a solid catalyst in organic synthesis and as an antitumour drug. Diethyl butylmalonate has been shown to be active against tumours in animal models, with an antitumour activity that may be due to its ability to inhibit the function of mammalian cells. This compound can be activated by reaction with an oxidizing agent, such as hydrogen peroxide or sodium hypochlorite, and it is also able to react with palladium complexes.
