This leads to neuronal death and disruption of neurotransmitter release. Diphenyl ditelluride has been shown to inhibit the locomotor activity in rats, as well as inhibit glutamate-induced neuronal death. Diphenyl ditelluride has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of voltage-dependent calcium channels, which may be due to its ability to form disulfide bonds with sulfur atoms found in these channels.
