Di-n-amyl sulphide is a colourless liquid with the odor of garlic. It is used in cationic polymerization as an acceptor and desulfurization, such as for the removal of sulfur from petroleum. The liquid has been shown to be a potent activator for ethyl group polymerization. Di-n-amyl sulphide has also been used to analyze organic acids by gas chromatography. It has an activation energy of 49 kcal/mol, nitrogen atoms, and a helical structure.
Di-n-amyl sulphide can be used as a drug target for farnesyl diphosphate synthase inhibitors to treat cancers that are resistant to chemotherapy.
