• Beschreibung: Dolichol-20 is a lipid molecule that is an important precursor for the biosynthesis of cholesterol, dolichols, and other polyisoprenoids. It can be extracted from animal tissues and purified by size-exclusion chromatography. Dolichol-20 has been shown to have inhibitory effects on the growth rate of mammalian cells in culture. The biological function of dolichol-20 is not well understood, but it may be involved in cell signaling pathways and membrane trafficking. Dolichol-20 is synthesized by the transfer of a 20 carbon fatty acid from mevalonate to phosphatidyl ethanolamine. The synthesis of dolichols requires one molecule of dolichol phosphate and eight molecules of geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate. This process involves two enzymes: n-linked glycosylation (DGAT) and mass spectrometric (DMGD).
