3,4-Dehydro-L-proline is an amino acid that is synthesized by the oxidation of L-glutamic acid. It has been shown to possess anticancer activity in prostate cancer cells and in animal models. 3,4-Dehydro-L-proline can be used as a redox cycling agent for the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause oxidative stress in cancer cells. This amino acid can also be used as a chemical inhibitor to block phosphatases, which are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphate esters. 3,4-Dehydro-L-proline also has potential applications in plant science as a biological sample and for its binding constants with proteins.
