Beschreibung:2,5-Dihydroxypropiophenone is a volatile compound that is used as an antibacterial agent. It has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as S. aureus and C. albicans. 2,5-Dihydroxypropiophenone has been found to inhibit growth of bacteria by disrupting their cell membrane and inhibiting protein synthesis. The compound also reacts with the acidolysis process in the bacterial cell wall and ethyl esters are formed by breaking down the ester bond. The reaction system was found to have a phase transition temperature of -8°C, which makes it possible to use this compound in refrigerated environments.
