This reaction produces a diazonium salt that reacts with amides to form 2,4-dichlorotriazines. The cytosolic enzyme nucleophilic hydroxylase catalyzes the conversion of 2,4-dichlorotriazines to reactive intermediates which can react with chloride ions to form chlorinated products in the environment.
