3-(N,N-dimethylpalmitylammonio)propanesulfonate is a cationic surfactant that binds to non-selective anionic surfaces. It is used in sample preparation and surface methodology, as well as analytical methods such as sensing and chromatography. 3-(N,N-dimethylpalmitylammonio)propanesulfonate has been shown to cause intravascular hemolysis when it binds with high affinity to the negatively charged phospholipid of red blood cells. This surfactant also stimulates the growth of plants by binding to plant hormones.
