N-(2,4-Dinitrophenyl)-L-alanine methyl ester (DNPA) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of nitrophenyl alkyl amides. It is synthesized by reacting 2,4-dinitrobenzene with L-alanine methyl ester and then hydrolyzing the product. DNPA has been used as an analytical reagent in IR spectroscopy due to its high intensity and sensitivity. The electron transfer theory can be used to predict the functional group population of DNPA. An FTIR spectrum was obtained from this molecule which exhibited a strong absorption at 1,640 cm-1 corresponding to the stretching vibration of N--H. This vibrational mode corresponds to the bending vibration of H--N--H, which is in agreement with previous reports on DNPA.
