Dichloro(methyl)phenylsilane is a colorless liquid that has the ability to transport ethylene diamine and other molecules. It is structurally similar to dichloroethylene, which can be used as a solvent for plastics, and has been shown to have low light resistance. Dichloro(methyl)phenylsilane can also be used as a reaction medium in cationic polymerization reactions of polyvinyl chloride. The hydrochloric acid-hydrolyzed form of dichloro(methyl)phenylsilane has been shown to be an optical sensor with high sensitivity and high resistance. This compound is reactive with hydroxyl groups and fatty acids, making it suitable for use as a solid catalyst or in nmr spectroscopic data.
