It has potent inhibitory activity against lipoxygenase, which is an enzyme responsible for the production of leukotrienes and other lipid compounds in the human body. 3,4-Diacetoxybenzoic acid inhibits fatty acid synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme acyl-CoA synthetase. This compound also has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, which are both associated with skin infections. 3,4-Diacetoxybenzoic acid may also have anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
