Dimethyl 4-nitrophthalate is a bioactive molecule that has been found to be effective in inhibiting the growth of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Dimethyl 4-nitrophthalate binds to calcium ions in the bacterial cell wall, leading to inhibition of cell division.
