It has also been used to form heat resistant polymers containing carboxylic acid groups. The compound is resistant to formic acid and piperidine, and can be used as a precursor for amines. 2,3-Dibromobutyric acid has shown antibiotic activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This compound was also found to have antibacterial properties against Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
