• Beschreibung: Dermaseptin is a cytosolic Ca2+-mobilizing peptide that has antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens. It binds to the intracellular targets (e.g., receptor molecule) and causes cell lysis. Dermaseptin has been shown to have a phase transition temperature of 43°C and is active at concentrations below 0.1μM. Titration calorimetry experiments show that dermaseptin has conformational properties that are similar to those of a linear peptide, but with an amphipathic character. Dermaseptin also interacts with mitochondrial membrane potential and releases cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytosol, which leads to cell death by apoptosis or necrosis.
