2,6-Dimethylbenzothiazole is a biomolecular that has been shown to have cytotoxic activity in the HCT116 and MCF-7 cell lines. It has been shown to induce apoptosis through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by electron deficient quinodimethane and its derivatives. 2,6-Dimethylbenzothiazole also possesses potent cytotoxicity against human colon cancer cells in vitro. The anticancer activity of this compound is due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and DNA replication. This molecule was synthesised from malonic acid and reacted with quinodimethane in acetonitrile with hydride ligands.
