Beschreibung

4,6-Difluoropyrimidine is a water soluble pyrimidine compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins in rats with ulcerative colitis. 4,6-Difluoropyrimidine also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by activated neutrophils. This drug has been shown to be effective in animal models for diabetic neuropathy and breast cancer. 4,6-Difluoropyrimidine binds to the C1-C6 receptor site on the N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor and blocks glutamate binding to this site. This prevents activation of this receptor and may be useful for the treatment of various neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
