(2'R)-2'-Deoxy-2'-fluoro-2'-methyluridine 3',5'-dibenzoate is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme RNA polymerase. It inhibits the synthesis of RNA, which is essential for protein synthesis and cell division. The synthesizing of (2'R)-2'-deoxy-2'-fluoro-2'-methyluridine 3',5'-dibenzoate can be done on an industrial scale by following a four-step process. This process involves the use of a Lewis acid catalyst to form the dianion.
