- 5-O-Methylvisamminol
5-O-Methylvisamminol is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-oxidant effects. It is also believed to act as a neurotrophic factor, promoting the development and function of neurons. 5-O-Methylvisamminol has been shown to inhibit the production of TNF-α in microglia cells and may be able to promote the survival of nerve cells by releasing chemicals that block the release of proinflammatory cytokines.
5-O-Methylvisamminol has been found in astragali radix, which is traditionally used for treating basophilic leukemia. The active ingredient can be extracted using an analytical method such as electrospray ionization quadrupole mass spectrometry.
